Ouschan conquers all in 2009 Great Lakes Classic

Austria's Jasmin Ouscan captured her third career win on the WPBA Classic Tour by taking the 2009 WPBA Great Lakes Classic.

In the final she dominated England's Kelly Fisher 7-2.

Karen Corr (Ireland) and Xiaoting Pan (China), finished joint third.

Defending champion Allison Fisher (England) lost 9-4 to Kelly Fisher in the quarter finals.

This was Ouschan's third win on the Classic Tour. She also won the 2006 EnjoyPool.com 9-ball Championships and the 2008 Carolina Classic.

Monica Webb (USA), who was gunning for her third title in a row on the Classic Tour, was ousted in the last 24 by England's Kim Shaw.

Ouschan's triumph takes her from 17th to third in the rankings. Kelly Fisher moves to first place, tied with former No.2 Ga Young Kim (South Korea).

The event took place from 17-21 June 2009 at the Blue Chip Casino, Michigan City, Illinois, USA. It was the second of six events on the 2009 Classic Tour. Next up is the US Open, at the Riverwind Casino, Norman, Oklahoma, USA, 29 July - 2 August 2009.

Allison Fisher claims third Great Lakes Classic title

Allison Fisher from England won the Great Lakes Classic.

In the final she came back from 2-0 down to defeat countrywoman Kelly Fisher 7-4.

Karen Corr (Ireland) and Sarah Ellerby (England) shared third, completing a clean sweep for the European contingent.

This was Allison Fisher's second title of 2008, her third Great Lakes Classic championship and her 53rd title on the Classic Tour.

The defending champion Xiaoting Pan from China was edged 9-8 by Kelly Fisher in the quarter-finals.

This win solidified Allison Fisher's No.1 position in the WPBA Rankings. Kelly Fisher improved from seventh to 5th. Corr jumped from fifth to second. She shares that place with Ga Young Kim (South Korea) and Pan.

Xiaoting Pan takes maiden win in Great Lakes Classic

China's Xiaoting Pan bounced back from last month's finals loss in winning the Great Lakes Classic for her first tour title.

Pan defeated Sweden's Helena Thörnfeldt 7-2 in a one-sided final. Kelly Fisher (England) and Ga-Young Kim (South Korea) finished joint third.

This was the second straight tour victory by an Asian this year. Ga-Young Kim (South Korea) beat Pan in the final of last month's Carolina Classic.

It's worth noting that neither of the two dominant players on tour made it to the semi-finals this time. Fittingly they were downed by the finalists. Karen Corr (Northern Ireland) lost 9-7 to Thörnfeldt in the first round of single elimination. Pan beat Allison Fisher (England) 9-4 in the quarter-finals.

With this win Pan moves from 8th to 4th in the WPBA Rankings. Thörnfeldt improved by 3 positions, from 13th to 10th. The list is still headed by Allison Fisher (England), followed by Karen Corr (Northern Ireland) and Kelly Fisher (England).

The event took place from March 21-25 at the Blue Chip Hotel and Casino, Michigan City, Indiana, USA. This was the second event of the WPBA season. Next up is San Diego Classic, April 18-22.

In the final 16 she hammered poster girl Jennifer Barretta, before edging biggest rival Karen Corr 9-8. Kim White was no match in the semis, going down 9-4. In the final she beat experienced Texan Vivian Villareal 7-4 to pocket the £13,000 first prize.
