Kasidokostas wins 2009 Three Cushion World Championship

Filipos Kasidokostas from Greece captured the 2009 World Three Cushion Championship.

Kasidokostas played to a high standard in the final where he beat Eddy Merckx (Belgium) 3-1. The set scores were 11-15, 15-8, 15-13 and 15-3.

Two-time defending champion Marco Zanetti (Italy) and Eddy Leppens (Belgium) shared third place.

Kasidokostas took away €4,800 for the victory. Merckx received €3,200.

The Greek champion had the highest average in the tournament, with 1.869. In addition he had the highest single match average with 3.058. As if that wasn't enough he also tied for the highest run of 13 with Roland Forthomme (Belgium) and Sergio Jimenez (Spain).

This was Kasidokostas' first world title, from three finals. In 2003 he lost to Semih Sayginer (Turkey) and in 2004 he lost to Dick Jaspers (Netherlands). This was the 62nd edition of the world championship but the very first won by a Greek player.

Merckx was aiming for his second world title, having previously won in 2006.

The win takes Kasidokostas from 17th to 10th in the World Players Ranking. Merckx advances three places from eighth to fifth. Jaspers only finished ninth in this event but is still the leader. Daniel Sanchez (Spain) stays in second and Frédéric Caudron (Belgium) moves from third to second.

The championship was held at the Centre de congrès et d'expositions Beaulieu, Lausanne, Switzerland between 11th and 15th November 2009.

Souquet grabs second straight Euro Tour win in Swiss Open

Ralf Souquet from Germany won his second successive Euro Tour title and 15th overall in the 2008 Swiss Open.

In the final the 20-time Euro champ downed fellow German Christian Reimering 9-4. The victory was worth €5000. Reimering's second place was worth €3300.

In the semi-finals Souquet defeated England's Philip Burford 9-2. Reimering edged Nick van den Berg (Netherlands) 9-7.

Souquet was dominant in the event. He never lost more than six games in a match.

This was Souquet's second win in the Swiss Open and 15th Euro Tour win overall, from 24 finals. He also won last month's Netherlands Open. He has more wins than anyone on the all-time list. His long-time rival and fellow German Oliver Ortmann has 13 wins.

Souquet was the first to win back-to-back titles since Johnny Archer in 2000.

Defending champion and ranking leader going into the event, Mark Gray from England lost 9-4 to Reimering in the quarter-finals.

The win will take Souquet from sixth to first in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Reimering moves from 16th to seventh. Bruno Muratore (Italy) holds on to second place and Niels Feijen (Netherlands) stays in third. Previous No.1 Gray falls to sixth.

The tournament was played 16-18 October at Poolbillard Center One Pocket, Payerne, Switzerland. It was the sixth event of seven on the 2008 Euro Tour. The last stop is the Dynamic Costa del Sol Open which runs from 4-7 December, 2008.

Ex snooker pro Mark Gray wins Swiss Open

2007 Swiss OpenEngland's Mark Gray won the Dynamic Swiss Open.

In the final he defeated Vilmos Földes (Hungary) 10-7 to win €5000. Földes took home €3300 for the runner-up position.

In the semi-finals Gray beat David Alcaide from Spain 10-9 and Földes defeated German Oliver Ortmann 10-7.

This was Gray's first win on the Euro Tour. His previous best was third place in last months's Netherlands Open. With Imran Majid winning that event and Daryl Peach taking the German Open English players now have captured two Euro Tour events in a row and three of the last four.

Gray has played on snooker's Main Tour several times. He was last a member in the 2004/2005 season.

With this win Gray takes a giant leap from 73rd to 12th in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Földes moves from 21st to ninth.

Konstantin Stepanov (Russia) holds on to the top spot. Daryl Peach (England) and Niels Feijen (Netherlands) move up one spot each to second and third respectively. Stepanov leads Peach by a mere 20 points before the last event but has only a 193rd place to defend.

The tournament was played 25-27 October at the Billiardcenter Island Billiards, Frauenfeld, Switzerland. It was the sixth event of seven on the Euro Tour this season. The next and last stop is the Costa del Sol Open Open (December 6-8).

Jonni Fulcher wins Euro Tour in own backyard

Home favourite Jonni Fulcher surprised everyone by winning the PoolComps.com Swiss Open and the top prize of €5,000. In the final he defeated snooker star Tony "Tornado" Drago 10-8.

Before this event Fulcher was No. 46 in the season rankings. His previous best showings were two 17th place finishes.

This was definitely a tournament filled with upsets. Dejan Dubovic from Austria and Francesco Diaz from Spain came from nowhere to share third place.

Austria's Jasmin Ouschan continues to impress. This time she came 17th, losing to Nick van der Berg (Netherlands) in the first round of the single cup. That's the best finish ever by a woman in Euro Tour.

The tournament was played 4-7 October at Island Billiards in Frauenfeld, Switzerland. In total 183 players took part. It was the sixth and penultimate event of the season. The last stop is in Spain (Dec 6-9).

With this victory Fulcher leaps from 46th to 11th in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Drago jumps all the way from 38th to 7th.

Nick van den Berg (Netherlands) is the new leader after passing Thomas Engert (Germany). Imran Majid (England) stays in third place.
