Jasmin Ouschan tops Carolina Classic

2008 WBPA Carolina ClassicUpdate: Jasmin Ouschan rules in the 2009 European Pool Championsips

Jasmin Ouschan from Austria won the WPBA Carolina Classic in dominating fashion.

In the final she outgunned Jeanette Lee (USA) 7-1.

Vivian Villareal (USA) was crushed 7-1 by Ouschan in the semi-finals and Line Kjørsvik (Norway) lost 7-5 to Lee.

This was Ouschan's second win on the Classic Tour. She also won the 2006 EnjoyPool.com 9-ball Championships.

Defending champion Ga Young Kim from Korean finished in a tie for ninth.

Ouschan definitely has found some terrific form as of late. It's no more than two weeks since she claimed an amazing bronze in the unisex World Straight Pool Championship.

With this win Ouschan moves from 14th to 9th in the WPBA rankings. Villareal jumps from 9th to 7th. Kelly Fisher (England) stays on top, followed by Karen Corr (Ireland) and Xiaoting Pan (China).

The event took place from 11-14 September 2008 at the American Tobacco Campus, Durham, North Carolina, USA. It was the fifth of seven this season on the Classic Tour. Next up is the Pacific Coast Classic, 1-5 October, in Lincoln City, Oregon.

Ga-Young Kim wins Carolina Women's Billiard Classic

World Champion Ga-Young Kim from South Korea won an all-Asian final to top the Carolina Women's Billiard Classic.

In the final she edged China's shooting star Xiaoting Pan 7-6. Allison Fisher (England) and Vivian Villareal (USA) finished joint third.

Kim earned $13,000 for first place. Pan's second place was worth $8,300.

This was her third victory on the WPBA Tour, following wins in the 2004 US Open and the 2005 Cuetec Cues National Championship.

With this win Kim drops(!) from 5th to 6th in the WPBA Rankings. Pan improved by five positions, from 13th to 8th. The list is still headed by Allison Fisher (England), followed by Karen Corr (Northern Ireland) and Kelly Fisher (England).

The event took place from February 21-25 at the Gateway Convention Center, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, USA. This was the first event of the WPBA season. Next up is Great Lakes Classic, March 21-25.
