Thompson wins gold No. 10 in the 2010 World Eightball Pool Championships

2010 World Eightball Pool ChampionshipsSue Thompson (Scotland) and Mick Hill (England) won gold in the 2010 World Eightball Pool Championships.

In a repeat of last year's women's final Thompson defeated Emma Cunningham (Northern Ireland) 8-4.

Thompson has reached the final in 15 of her 16 attempts with this being her tenth win. These two have now contested six of the last seven finals, with Cunningham tasting victory in 2005.

Mick Hill beat fellow Englishman Gareth Potts 11-8 in the men's final.

This was Hill's second title. He also won in 2004. Potts has three wins, in 2005, 2007 and 2008.

Defending champion Phil Harrison (England) went down 10-8 to Hill in the semifinals.

Frank Costello (England) won the junior singles and Gary Swift (England) took gold in the wheelchair division. There were also a number of other events, including teams, Under 21s and Over 50s.

The tournament took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool, England, 27 June - 8 July 2010.

Luca Brecel (15) wins 2010 European Snooker Championship

Luca Brecel and Wendy Jans (both from Belgium) won gold medals in the 2010 European Snooker Championships.

15-year-old Brecel defeated Dutchman Roy Stolk 7-4 in the final of the men's event while home favourite Jans defeated Diana Stateczny (Germany) 5-3.

In the men's semis Brecel beat Iceland's Kristján Helgason 6-3 while Stolk defeated Roy Fernandez (Israel) 6-4.

In the ladies' semis Jans overcame Anna Mazhirina (Russia) 4-2. Stateczny whitewashed Germany's Natascha Niermann 4-0.

Brecel is the youngest ever winner of the European Championship. It was his third title in a short span. He also won the 2009 European U-19 Championship and recently added the Belgian Championship.

It was Jans' fifth European title. She also won in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2009. In addition she captured the 2006 IBSF World Amateur Championship.

The winner of the men's title is usually awarded a place on the Main Tour but beacause there is a 16 year age requirement EBSA are consulting with World Snooker before making the formal nomination

Defending champion David Hogan (Ireland) lost 4-2 to Roy Fernandez in the last 32.

Former top pro Darren Morgan (Wales) won the Masters division. In the final he beat 2000 winner Joe Delaney (Ireland) 6-0. Morgan also won in 2007 and 2009. He opted for the Men's event in 2008, where he made it to the semifinals.

Hogan and Kuldesh Johal (England) had the highest breaks of the tournament with 141s.

The event was held 27 May - 5 June, 2010 at the Rin Grand Hotel, Bucharest, Romania.

The European Main Tour play-offs (International Open) was played just before the tournament. Kurt Maflin (Norway) won the event to reclaim a place on next season's Main Tour.

Burden and Yee win golds in the 2009 IBSF World Snooker Championships

England's Alfie Burden and Ng On Yee from Hong Kong won gold medals at the 2009 IBSF World Snooker Championships.

Burden beat surprise finalist Igor Figueiredo (Brazil) 10-8 in the men's final while Yee overwhelmed Australia's Kathy Parashis 6-1.

Yu Delu (China) and finished third in the men's event and Bi Zhuqing (China) reached the same position among the ladies.

These were the first world titles for both Burden and Yee. Burden is a former top-32 player on the Main Tour.

Neither of the defending champions competed this year. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh (Thaniland) is currently playing on the Main Tour while three-time winner Reanne Evans (England) could not find a sponsor.

The victory means Burden is set to be nominated for a return to the Main Tour in the 2010/2011 season.

The final in the Masters event saw two former pros clash. Darren Morgan (Wales) beat defending champion Dene O'Kane (New Zealand) 6-0. Morgan also won in 2007. Last year he played in the men's event, where he was knocked out in the last 16.

The event was held 15-25 November 2009 at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre in Hyderabad, India.

Jaspers goes one better to claim gold in 2009 World Games

2005 three cushion runner-up Dick Jaspers from Netherlands was one of the winners in the 2009 World Games.

In the 2005 final Jaspers lost 42-41 to Daniel Sanchez (Spain). He got his revenge by beating Sanchez 40-26 in the semi finals and Torbjörn Blomdahl (Sweden) 40-18 in the final.

Austrian Jasmin Ouschan was the defending champion in the women's pool event. She also reached this year's final, but lost 9-8 to Allison Fisher (England).

Ralf Souquet from Germany won the men's pool event. The former world champion is possibly the best player in the world right now and defeated Ching-Shun Yang (Taiwan) 11-4 in the final. The 2005 winner Pei-Weo Chang (Taiwan) did not return to defend his title.

The snooker final was contested between two Englsih pros with veteran Nigel Bond beating David Grace 3-0. Northern Ireland's defending champion Gerard Greene did not take part.

The World Games is an event for 30+ sports not included in the Olympic Games. It's staged every four years by the International World Games Association.

The Games took place 16-26 July 2009 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. In 2013 the host city will be Cali, Columbia.

Thompson nicks ninth gold in the 2009 World Eightball Pool Championships

2009 World Eightball Pool ChampionshipsSue Thompson (Scotland) and Phil Harrison (England) came out on top in the 2009 Foster's World Eightball Pool Championships.

Thompson defeated England's Emma Cunningham 8-6 in the women's final.

Thompson has reached the final in 14 of her 15 attempts with this being her ninth win. These two have now contested five of the last six finals, with Cunningham tasting victory in 2005.

Harrison beat Mick Hill (England) 11-7 in the men's final to take home the £10,000 cheque. In the semi-finals Harrison defeated Adam Davis (England) 10-7 and Harrison beat Marc Farnsworth (England) by the same score.

This was Harrison's first title. His previous best was four semi finals. Hill won the title in 2005.

The two defending champions went out early this year. Lynette Horsburgh (Scotland) was beaten 6-3 by Collette Henriksen (Wales) in the last 16 and Gareth Potts (England) lost 9-6 to Davies in the quarter finals.

Ben Clark (England) won the Junior title and Gary Swift (England) took gold in the wheelchair division. There were also a number of other events, including teams, Under 21s and Over 50s.

The tournament took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool, England, 28 June - 9 July 2009.

Hogan and Jans win European Snooker Championships

David Hogan (Ireland) and Wendy Jans (Belgium) won gold medals in the 2009 European Snooker Championships.

Hogan defeated fellow Irishman Mario Fernandez 7-4 in the final of the men's event while home favourite Jans whitewashed Anna Mazhirina (Russia) 5-0.

Hogan blanked Germany's Sascha Lippe in the semis while Fernandez beat yet another Irishman, Brendan O'Donoghue, 6-2.

In an all-Belgian semifinal EJans eased past Caty Dehaene 4-1. Mazhirina edged Latvia's Inese Lukashevska 4-3.

This was Hogan's first major title. Jans won the European title three years in a row from 2004-2006. She also captured the 2006 IBSF World Amateur Championship.

With this victory Hogan won a spot on the 96-man 2009/2010 Main Tour.

Defending champion David Grace (England) lost 5-2 to O'Donoghue in the quarterfinals. 2008 Ladies champion Reanne Evans (England) did not participate in this year's event.

Former top pro Darren Morgan (Wales) won the Masters division. In the final he beat 2000 winner Joe Delaney (Ireland) 6-3. Morgan also won in 2007. He opted for the Men's event last year though, where he made it to the semifinals.

Tony "Tornado" Drago from Malta had the highest break of the tournament with a 139.

The event was held 3-13 June at the Crowne Plaza, Duffel, Belgium.

The European Main Tour play-offs (International Open) was played just before the tournament. Drago won the event to reclaim a place on next season's Main Tour.

Jasmin Ouschan rules in the 2009 European Pool Championships

European Pool Championships 2009Austria's Jasmin Ouschan had a near-perfect showing at the 2009 European Pool Championships.

Ouschan took golds in 8-ball and 9-ball, and silver in straight pool. In 8-ball she also won in 2007 and 2008.

Jouni Tahti from Finland rolled away with gold in both wheelchair events.

None of the other defending champions managed to retain their titles and no other players reached more than one final.

Un-Nooh and Evans on top in the IBSF Snooker World Championship

Thailand's Thepchaiya Un-Nooh and Reanne Evans from England won gold medals at the 2008 IBSF World Snooker Championships.

Un-Nooh beat Ireland's Colm Gilcreest 11-7 in the men's final while Evans bested former champ Wendy Jans (Belgium) 5-3.

Soheil Vahedi (Iran) and Xiao Guodong (China) finished joint third in the men's event. Emma Bonney (England) and Ching Ching Yu (Hong Kong) reached the same positions among the ladies.

This was Un-Nooh's first world title. Evans has won twice before, in 2004 and 2007. She is also a four-time defending champion of the World Ladies Snooker Championship, organized by the World Ladies Snooker & Billiards Association.

The victory means Un-Nooh is set to be nominated for a place on the Main Tour in the 2008/2009 season.

Former pro Dene O'Kane (New Zealand) won the Masters (Over 40s). He beat India's former billiards world champ Geet Sethi 5-1 in the final. The defending champion Darren Morgan from Wales played in the men's event this year, where he was knocked out in the last 16.

All the three champs also secured the highest break in their respective divisions. Un-Nooh had a 143, Evans made a 80 O'Kane managed a 109.

The event was held 27 October - 8 November 2008 in Wels, Austria. Next year the championship will be contested in Hyderabad, India.

Ouschan wins sixth gold in European Pool Championships

European Pool Championships 2008Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) was one of many winners in the "All in one" European Pool Championships.

Nobody managed to retain their titles in the main single events. Ouschan was the only of last year's champions to win a gold medal this year. The 2007 9-ball champion came out on top in 8-ball.

Ouschan's victim in the 8-ball final, Line Kjørsvik, was one of two players to reach two finals. Kjørsvik also finished runner-up in 14.1. Zoran Svilar from Serbia won silver in both 9-ball and 8-ball.

This was Ouschan's sixth euro gold, and second in 8-ball. Tahti also had five previous wins. Chamat, Dederding and Sørensen all won for the second time.

This championship marked the 30th anniversary of the EPBF and therefore contained all categories and disciplines. There were also events for Seniors, Ladies, Juniors, Boys and Girls.

The event was held August 7-16, 2008 at the Sauerland Sterner Hotel, Willingen, Germany.

Potts and Horsburgh shine in the World Eightball Pool Championships

2008 World Eightball Pool ChampionshipsGareth Potts (England) and Lynette Horsburgh (Scotland) came out on top in the Foster's World Eightball Pool Championships.

Potts beat Jason Twist (England) 11-4 in the men's final. In the semi-finals they both won in deciding games, against the Englishmen Adam Davis and Gareth Hibbott.

This was Potts' second title in a row and third overall. He also won in 2005. In addition he won the junior championship in 2000.

Lynette Horsburgh (Scotland) defeated England's Barbara Taylor 8-6 in the women's final.

The losing semifinalists Sue Thompson and Emma Cunningham (both England) had contested the last four finals, with Cunningham tasting victory in 2005. Thompson had reached the final in each of her previous 13 attempts.

Horsburgh is best known for her snooker skills and has a runner-up finish in the 2005 World Ladies Snooker Championship as her best result.

Paul Maguire (England) won the Junior title and Tony Southern (England) successfully defended his title in the wheelchair division. There were also a number of other events, including teams, Under 21s and Over 50s.

The tournament took place at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool, England, 29 June - 10 July.

Grace and Evans capture European Snooker Championships

David Grace and Reanne Evans from England won gold in the European Snooker Championships.

Grace edged fellow Englishman Craig Steadman 7-6 in the final of the men's event while Evans defeated Emma Bonney (England) 5-3.

Grace defeated Andrew Pagett (Wales) 6-4 in the semis while Steadman beat former top pro Darren Morgan (Wales) 6-3.

For the second year running Evans defeated Michelle Sherwin (Ireland) 4-0 in the women's semi-finals. Bonney beat Belgium's Isabelle Jonckheere 4-1.

This was Grace's first major title. Evans won the 2007 European Championship and has four World Ladies Snooker Championships and two IBSF World Amateur Ladies Championships.

With this victory Grace won a spot on the 2008/2009 Main Tour.

Alan Trigg completed the English domination with victory in the Masters division. In the final he beat Kieran McMahon (Northern Ireland) 6-4. McMahon also finished runner-up last year, to Darren Morgan.

Bobby Cruickshank from Scotland had the highest break of the tournament with a 119.

The event was held 5-14 June at the Sport Hall GLOBUS, Lublin, Poland.

The European Main Tour play-offs was played just before the tournament. Former pro Stefan Mazrocis (Netherlands) won the event and wins back a place on next season's Main Tour.

Pan and Jones on top in GenerationPool.com 9-Ball Championships

Xiaoting Pan (China) and Jeremy Jones (USA) captured the GenerationPool.com 9-ball Championships.

In the finals Pan defeated Ga Young Kim (South Korea) 7-4. Jones beat his friend and rival Ronnie Wiseman (USA) by the same score.

The winners both received $15,000, while the runner-ups won $9,000.

In the women's division 2006 champion Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) and Anna Kostanian (USA) shared third. 2000 champion Johnny Archer and fellow American Shawn Putman took the same positions among the men.

Neither Pan nor Jones had won the title before. Jones was runner-up in 1999.

The defending champions had a tough time this time around. Karen Corr (Ireland) lost to Pan in the quarter-finals and Shane Van Boening went out to Robb Saez (USA) in the early rounds.

With this win Pan advanced from 9th to third in the WPBA Rankings. Kim improved from third to second. Allison Fisher (England) is still in front.

The event took place June 8-12, 2008 at the Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. The tournament was previously known as the EnjoyPool.com 9-ball Championships and before that the BCA Open 9-ball Championships.

Mahitthi and Evans victorious in the IBSF World Snooker Championship

Thailand's Atthasit Mahitthi and Reanne Evans from England won gold medals at the IBSF World Snooker Championships.

Mahitthi beat fellow Thai Passakorn Suwannawat 11-7 in the men's final while Evans blanked defending champion Wendy Jans (Belgium) 5-0.

This was Mahitthi's first world title. His previous best was joint third in 2006. Evans has won once before, in 2004. She is also a three-time defending champion of the World Ladies Snooker Championship, organized by the World Ladies Snooker & Billiards Association.

The victory means Mahitthi is set to be nominated for a place on the Main Tour in the 2008/2009 season.

The highest break of the tournament was 140 by Alex Borg (Malta). Evans had a 64 in the Ladies division and Kieran McMahon (Northern Ireland) topped the Masters break table with a 115.

Former pro Darren Morgan won the Masters (Over 40s). He beat Karnchai Wongian from Thailand 5-1 in the final.

The event was held 11-25 November in Sima Thani Hotel, Korat, Thailand.

Thompson and Potts crowned world eightball pool champions

Thompson, who now has a record eight world titles, defeated Northern Ireland's Emma Cunningham 8-3 in the deciding match. These two players have contested the last four finals, with Cunningham tasting victory in 2005. Thompson has reached the final in each of her 13 attempts.

Potts beat Mick Hill (England) 11-4 in the men's final. This was Potts' second world title. He also won in 2005. In 2000 he won the junior championship.

Sean Conway (Ireland) won the Junior title and Tony Southern (England) came out on top of the wheelchair division. There were also a host of other events, including teams.

The tournament took place in Blackpool, England, 2nd-12th July.

Van Hove and Evans win European Snooker Championship golds

Kevin Van Hove from Belgium and Reanne Evans from England came out on top in the European Snooker Championships.

Van Hove beat Rodney Goggins (Ireland) 6-2 in the final of the men's event while Evans overcame defending champion Wendy Jans (Belgium) 5-2.

A Main Tour spot was on offer to the winner of the men's event. Since both finalists had already qualified the spot was supposed to go to third place winner Vincent Muldoon (Ireland) but this was later retracted by the WSA.

Goggins defeated unlucky Bjorn Haneveer (Belgium) 6-5 in the third place playoff. Haneveer also lost 6-5 in the semis.

In the women's semi-finals Evans defeated Michelle Sherwin (Ireland) while Jans beat Anna Mazhirina (Russia).

This was Van Hove's first major title. Evans has won three world crowns and was runner-up in the 2004 European Championships.

Welsh prodigy Michael White had the highest break of the tournament with a 141.

Former top player Darren Morgan (Wales) was victorious the Masters division. In the final he beat Kieran McMahon (Northern Ireland) 6-2.

The event was held 6-16 June at the Ivy Rooms in Carlow, Ireland.

The European Main Tour play-offs was played just before the tournament. Van Hove won the event and a place on next season's Main Tour.

Orcollo and Corr on top in EnjoyPool.com 9-Ball Championships

Dennis Orcollo (Philippines) and Karen Corr (Ireland) won the men's and women's division in the EnjoyPool.com 9-ball Championships. The event was formerly known as BCA Open.

In the finals Orcollo whitewashed USA's Shane Van Boening 7-0. Corr beat long-time rival Allison Fisher (England) 7-4. This was Orcollo's first victory in the event. Corr has three previous wins.

The winners both received $15,000, while the runner-ups won $9,000.

Mike Davis (USA) and defending champion Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) finished third in their respective divisions.

With this win Corr moved closer to Fisher in the WPBA Rankings. Xiaoting Pan is in third place.

Ouschan, Ortmann and Kimberley repeats in the European Championships

European Pool Championships 2007Three players had repeat performances in this year's European Pool Championships.

Germany's Oliver Ortmann successfully defended his 8-ball title. Jasmin Ouschan from Austria did the same in the women's 14.1 event and Roy Kimberley (GBR) repeated in the 9-ball wheelchair division.

Niels Feijen (Netherlands) won his fourth European 14.1 title and Thorsten Hohmann from Germany completed his selection with gold in the 9-ball event. He has previously won in 8-ball (2004) and 14.1 (2005).

Diana Stateczny (Germany) won the women's 8-ball title and Eylul Kibaroglu (Turkey) nailed gold in 9-ball.

In the wheelchair section Daniel Luton (GBR) won the 8-ball title, making it a clean sweet for Britain.

Ouschan totally dominated the 14.1 division. In the semi-finals she ran 75 and out. In the final she did even better. From -1 - 30 behind she ran 76 and out!

With his latest win Ortmann stands at 15 golds and 30 medals in total. Ouschan is the all-time leader in the women's division. In her short career she has already won 14 times and collected 18 medals in total.

The event was held Mar 15-24, 2007 at the Babylon Centre, Liberec, Czech Republic.

Maflin and Jans top World Snooker

Kurt Maflin from Norway and Wendy Jans from Belgium came out on top at the IBSF World Snooker Championships.

Maflin beat Daniel Ward (England) 11-8 in the men's final while Jans whitewashed Wan-Ip In (Hong Kong) 5-0. Both winners were undefeated throughout the tournament.

A Main Tour spot was on offer to the winner of the men's event. That means Maflin will compete against the top pros in the 2007/2008 season. This will be his second stint on the world's major snooker tour.

Keith E Boon (Singapore) had the highest break of the tournament with a magnificent 147.

Pakistan's Mohammad Yousuf won the title in the Masters (Over 40s) division. He beat Glen Wilkinson from Australia 5-4 in the final.

The event was held 5-15 November in the Regency Palace, Amman, Jordan.

Borg and Jans defend Euro snooker titles

Alex Borg from Malta and Wendy Jans from Belgium came out on top in the European Snooker Championships. The event was held 5-15 June in Constanta, Romania.

Borg beat Jeff Cundy (England) 7-5 in the final while Jans whitewashed Isabelle Jonckheere (Netherlands) 5-0.

The Maltese star probably had his toughest battle in the semis against Norway's Kurt Maflin. That match was decided on the final colors in the deciding frame.

A Main Tour spot was on offer to the winner of the men's event. Cundy had already secured this prize before a ball was potted in the final as Borg was not eligible, having played on the Tour this season.

This was Borg's fourth final. Prior to last year's win he was runner-up in 2004 and 1998.

Jamie Jones (Wales) had the highest break of the tournament with a 132.

It was an all-Finnish affair in the Seniors final. Jyri Virtanen defeated Kimmo Lång 6-4.

The Romanian Open was played just before the tournament. Netherland's Roy Stolk won the event and a place on next season's Main Tour.

Selby and Thompson are new world eightball champions

Snooker pro Mark Selby (England) and Sue Thompson (Scotland) won the IYP.com World Eightball Championship.

Selby, who had to rely on a sponsor's wildcard to get into the tournament, beat favourite Darren Appleton (England) 11-7 in the final. Appleton also finished second in 1994. First prize was £10,000.

Thompson defeated Northern Ireland's Emma Cunningham 8-6 in the women's final. She also beat Cunningham in the 2004 final. Last year the positions were reversed.

Pat McCarron (Scotland) won the Junior title and Karl Read (England) won the wheelchair division. There were also team events in each division.

The tournament took place in Blackpool, England, 5th-15th June.
