Boyes continues hot run to take 2010 Austria Open

2010 Austria OpenEngland's Karl Boyes won the 2010 Austria Open.

In the final the current 8-ball world champion and German Open runner-up defeated Nick van den Berg (Netherlands) 9-6. The victory was worth €5000 and van den Berg got €3300 for second place.

In the semifinals of this 9-ball event Boyes ousted fellow Englishman Chris Melling 9-7 while van den Berg defeated Harald Stolka (Germany) 9-3.

This was Boyes' first Euro Tour win. His previously best was runner-up positions in the 2009 Costa del Sol Open and 2010 German Open. Nick van den Berg is a four-time champion.

Defending champion Marcus Chamat (Sweden) was downed 9-7 by Wojciech Trajdos (Poland) in the last 32.

The win lifts Boyes from fifth to first in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist van den Berg improves from 15th to seventh. Former No.1 Daryl Peach (England) drops to second and Niels Feijen (Netherlands) falls one place to third.

The tournament was played 8-10 July 2010 at the Sporthotel Alpina, Sankt Johann im Pongau, Austria. It was the fourth event of seven on the 2010 Euro Tour. Next up is the Finland Open which runs from 25-29 August 2010.

Chamat wins 2009 Austria Open, Euro Tour event #100

Sweden's Marcus Chamat won the 2009 Austria Open.

Chamat defeated reigning 10-ball world champion Darren Appleton (England) 9-6 in the final to earn the €5000 first prize. Majid received €3000 for second place.

In the semi finals Chamat beat virtual unknown Jakob Belka from Germany 9-6 and Appleton downed five-time ET winner Niels Feijen (Netherlands) 9-7.

This was Chamat's third Austria Open title and fourth win in total, from seven finals. It puts him at No.6 on the all-time list.

Chamat moves from fifth to third in the Euro Tour Ranking. Appleton jumps from 19th to eighth. Ralf Souquet (Germany) holds a massive lead atop the list and Feijen stays in second place.

This was the 100th event on the Euro Tour. The very first was the 1992 Belgium Open. Mika Immonen (Finland) defeated Tom Storm (Sweden) in that event. Souquet is the all-tim leader with 16 wins, followed by fellow Germans Oliver Ortmann and Thomas Engert with 13 and nine wins respectively.

The tournament was played 19-22 August at Patricks Canadian Taverne, Rankweil, Austria. It was the fourth event of seven on the 2009 Euro Tour. Next up is the Netherlands Open which runs from September 17-19 2009.

Nick van den Berg takes Austria Open title

Nick van den Berg from Netherlands won his fourth Euro Tour title by capturing the Patricks Austria Open.

In the final the two-time Euro Tour season winner dominated England's two-time Euro Tour titlist Imran Majid 9-2. The victory was worth €6000. Majid received €3800 for his runner-up finish.

In the semi-finals van den Berg defeated fellow Dutchman Niels Feijen 9-2 while Majid beat Poland's Mateusz Sniegocki 9-3.

This was van den Berg's second win in the Austria Open and fourth win in total. He has previously won the 2002 Austria Open, 2005 Germany Open and 2006 Czech Open. This puts him in fifth place on the all-time list.

Defending champion, John Vassalos from Greece did not take part in the event.

The win takes van den Berg from ninth to fifth in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Majid moves from fifth to second. Mark Gray (England) once again holds on to the top position. Bruno Muratore (Italy) sits in third place.

The tournament was played 12-14 June at Patricks Canadian Taverne, Rankweil, Austria. It was the fourth event of seven on the 2008 Euro Tour. The next stop is the Dynamic Netherlands Open which runs from 11-13 September, 2008.

Vassalos is surprise winner of Austria Open

John Vassalos became the first Greek winner on the Euro Tour by capturing the PoolComps.com Austra Open.

In the final he defeated Malta's Tony Drago 10-9 to win €6500. Drago took home €3900 for the runner-up position.

In the semi-finals Vassalos beat Nick van den Berg from Netherlands and Drago bested Markus Juva (Finland) 10-7.

This was Vassalos' first win on the Euro Tour. He was also the first Greek to win. Vassalos' previous best was third in the 2004 Austria Open.

The win takes Vassalos from 199th to 82nd in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Drago moves from 15th to 11th.

Konstantin Stepanov (Russia) advances five places to the top of the rankings. Jonni Fulcher from Switzerland also improves five positions to sit in second place. Niels Feijen (Netherlands) drops from first to third.

The tournament was played 14-17 June at Patrick's Canadian Taverne, Rankweil, Austria. It was the fourth Euro Tour event of the season. Next stop is the Netherlands Open (September 12-16).

Marcus "Napoleon" Chamat rules in Austria

Sweden's Marcus Chamat won the ImproveYourPool.com Austria Open.

In the final he defeated Netherland's Nick van den Berg 10-7. Tour leader Thomas Engert (Germany) and Niels Feijen (Netherland) finished joint third.

With this victory Chamat moves from 6th to 5th in the Euro Tour Ranking. Engert retains his lead and Feijen stays put in second. van den Berg moves past Imran Majid (England) into third.
