Neil Robertson wins Welsh Open

WSA: Welsh OpenNeil Robertson from Australia won the Welsh Open for his second ranking title of the season.

The final against surprise package Andrew Higginson (England) was a roller coaster affair. Robertson looked to be cruising to the title when he opened up a 6-2 lead. Then Higginson played brilliantly after the interval to go 8-6 ahead. Robertson refused to give up though and won the last three frames to claim his second major title. He also won the Grand Prix earlier in the season.

Andrew Higginson had the best snooker week of his life. Not only did he reach the final. He also made a 147 in the earlier rounds. That earned him a £22,000 bonus. Not bad considering he'd won a total of £70,000 in the previous 12 years.

The win took the Aussie from 10th to seventh in the provisional rankings. Higginson improved from 63rd to 40th. Ken Doherty (Ireland) stays on top, followed by Scots Graeme Dott and John Higgins.

The event took place in Newport Centre, Wales Feb 11-18, 2007.
