Sascha Tege gets breakthrough win in 2010 German Open

Sascha Tege from the host nation won the 2010 German Open.

In the final the 31-year-old surprise winner defeated current 8-ball world champion Karl Boyes (England) 8-6. The victory was worth €5000 and Boyes got €3300 for second place .

In the semifinals Tege edged Raj Hundal (England) 8-7 while Boyes hammered Fabio Petroni (Italy) 8-1.

This was Teges's first Euro Tour win. His previously best was fifth in the 2007 German Open. Tege is the fourth German winner in the last five editions of this event.

Defending champion Ralph Souquet (Germany) was ousted 8-6 by Hundal in the last 32.

For the second year in a row 10-ball was the game used in the event.

The win lifts Tege from 111th to 80th in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Boyes improves from 10th to fifth. Daryl Peach (England) is the new No.1, Niels Feijen (Netherlands) is in second and Mateusz Sniegocki (Poland) sits in third. All three improve one place. Former leader Souquet drops to eighth.

The tournament was played 10-12 June 2010 at the Axxon Hotel, Brandenburg, Germany. It was the third event of seven on the 2010 Euro Tour. Next up is the Austria Open which runs from 8-10 July 2010.

Turkey wins 2010 World Three Cushion Championship

Turkey won the World Team Three Cushion Championship for a third time.

The winning team consisted of Adnan Yüksel and Murat Naci Coklu. In the final they won 2-0 over Spain (Daniel Sánchez and Ruben Legazpi).

Netherlands and South Korea tied for third place in an event with teams from 21 countries.

Turkey has won the title twice before, in 2003 and 2004.

Five-time defending champions Sweden lost to Spain in the qyarterfinals.

Netherlands (A) had the highest general average of 1.820.

Of all the players Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) had the highest general average of 2.253. Yüksel had a 2.812 to top the single game averages. Colombia's Carlos Campino had the highest run with a perfect 15.

The tournament was played 25-28 February at Festhalle Viersen in Viersen, Germany.

Great Britain wins inaugural Pool World Team Championship

Great Britain won the first ever Pool World Team Championship.

In the final they defeated Philippines 4-1 to claim the $75,000 first prize.

Greece were beaten 4-2 by Great Britain in the semifinals. Russia were defeated 4-1 by Philippines in the same round.

The winning team consisted of Imran Majid, Darren Appleton, Karl Boyes, Daryl Peach and Mark Gray. The Filipino team included Ronnie Alcano, Warren Kiamco, Antonio Lining, Marlon Manalo and Dennis Orcollo.

Once again the Brits impress at a major pool event. Peach was the 2007 world 9-ball champion and Appleton won the 2008 World Ten Ball Championship. In addition England came second in the 2008 World Cup of Pool.

The event took place from 31 January to 7 February at the Deutsche Messe, Hannover, Germany. 42 teams took part and all matches were a combination of scotch doubles and singles, in 8-ball, 9-ball and 10-ball.

Souquet wins German Open - Euro Tour's first 10-ball event

Ralf Souquet from Germany won the 2009 German Open.

In the final Souquet defeated England's two-time ET winner Imran Majid 8-4 to claim the €5000 first prize. Majid received €3300 for second place.

Souquet defeated countryman and defending champion Thomas Engert 8-3 in the semifinals. Majid edged surprise man Michal Czarnecki (Poland) 8-6.

This was the first ever 10-ball event on the Euro Tour and what could be more fitting than the all-time leader taking the title. This was his 16th win from 26 finals. Fellow German Oliver Ortmann is second on the list with 13 wins.

The German legend is on an amazing run. His last six finishes on the Tour is 5th, 1st, 1st, 5th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st.

Souquet extends his already massive lead in the Euro Tour Ranking. Majid improves from seventh to fourth. The Dutch pair of Niels Feijen and Nick van den Berg hold on to second and third place respectively.

The tournament was played 21-23 May at Billiard Cafe Die Drei, Sindelfingen, Germany. It was the third event of seven on the 2009 Euro Tour. Next up is the Patricks Austria Open which runs from August 20-22 2009. It will be the 100th event on the Euro Tour.

Sweden grabs ninth world three cushion team championship

For the fifth time in a row and ninth overall Sweden won the World Team Three Cushion Championship.

The winning team once again consisted of Torbjörn Blomdahl and Michael Nilsson. In the final they won 2-0 over Belgium (Eddy Merckx and Roland Forthomme).

Germany and South Korea tied for third place in an event with teams from 18 countries.

Blomdahl has played on all the nine winning teams. Nilsson has "only" seven golds.

Sweden had a perfect 10-0 record in the event. They also had the highest general average of 1.769.

Of all the players Blomdahl had the highest general average of 1.969. He also had a 3.333 to top the single game averages. Belgium's Roland Forthomme had the highest run with 14.

The tournament was played 5-8 March at Festhalle Viersen in Viersen, Germany.

Zanetti wins second Three Cushion World Championship

Marco Zanetti from Italy captured the 2008 World Three Cushion Championship.

In a very close final against Torbjörn Blomdahl from Sweden he won 3-2, with the set scores 14-15, 15-8, 15-11, 14-15 and 15-13.

Relative unknowns Jeremy Bury (France) and Peter de Backer (Belgium) shared third place. They were 16th and 14th respectively in the world rankings coming into this event.

Zanetti took away €4,800 for the victory. Blomdahl received €3,200.

Kouji Funaki (Japan) had the highest average in the tournament, with 1.891. Two-time world champion Daniel Sanchez from Spain had the highest single match average with 2.409. World No.1 Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) had the highest run with 14.

This was Zanetti's second world title. He also won in 2002. In addition he was runner-up in 2001 to the great Raymond Ceulemans (Belgium).

Blomdahl was aiming for his sixth world title from 11 finals.

Defending champion Ryuuji Umeda (Japan) was knocked out in the group phase by Sweden's Mikael Nilsson, and finished in 26th place.

The win takes Zanetti from 11th to fifth in the World Players Ranking. Blomdahl advances one place from third to second. Jaspers only finished 14th in this event but is still the leader. Frédéric Caudron (Belgium) falls from second to third.

The championship was held at the Saalbau St. Wendel, in St. Wendel, Germany between 14th and 19th October.

Ouschan wins sixth gold in European Pool Championships

Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) was one of many winners in the "All in one" European Pool Championships.

Nobody managed to retain their titles in the main single events. Ouschan was the only of last year's champions to win a gold medal this year. The 2007 9-ball champion came out on top in 8-ball.

Ouschan's victim in the 8-ball final, Line Kjørsvik, was one of two players to reach two finals. Kjørsvik also finished runner-up in 14.1. Zoran Svilar from Serbia won silver in both 9-ball and 8-ball.

This was Ouschan's sixth euro gold, and second in 8-ball. Tahti also had five previous wins. Chamat, Dederding and Sørensen all won for the second time.

This championship marked the 30th anniversary of the EPBF and therefore contained all categories and disciplines. There were also events for Seniors, Ladies, Juniors, Boys and Girls.

The event was held August 7-16, 2008 at the Sauerland Sterner Hotel, Willingen, Germany.

Engert wins Germany Open for ninth Euro Tour title

Germany's own Thomas Engert captured his ninth Euro Tour title by winning the Dynamic Germany Open.

In the final the eight-time European champion trounced Italy's Fabio Petroni 9-1 to win €6000. Petroni received €3800 for his runner-up finish.

In the semi-finals Engert defeated Karl Boyes (England) 9-3 while Petroni bested Finlands's Markus Juva 9-7.

This was Engert's ninth tournament win on the Euro Tour. He has previously won the 1992 Dutch Open, 1992 Hungarian Open, 1994 Germany Open, 1996 Netherlands Open, 1997 Spain Open, 1998 Polen Open, 2004 Italy Open and 2005 Swiss Open. Only his fellow Germans Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann have more wins, with 13 each. The 35 wins means the German trio has won 37.6% of the 93 Euro Tour events contested.

Engert's only loss in the event came against Austria's Jasmin Ouschan. She was eventually beaten 9-6 by Gabriele Cimmino (Italy) in the last 32. Defending champion, England's world champion Daryl Peach lost 9-6 to Engert at the same stage.

The win takes Engert all the way from 11th to second in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Petroni moves from 37th to 20th. Ouschan is the top female on the list, improving from 106th to 66th. Mark Gray (England) once again holds on to the top position. Former snooker great Tony Drago (Malta) drops from second to third.

The tournament was played 22-24 May at Billiardcenter "Die Drei", Sindelfingen, Germany. It was the third event of seven on the 2008 Euro Tour. The next stop is the Dynamic Austrian Open which runs from 12-14 June, 2008.

For the fourth time in a row and eighth overall Sweden won the World Team Three Cushion Championship.

The winning team consisted of Torbjörn Blomdahl and Michael Nilsson. In the final they won 2-0 over Netherland's duo, Raymond Burgman and Dick Jaspers.

South Korea and Spain tied for third place in an event with 20 teams from 19 countries.

Blomdahl has played on all of eight winning teams. Nilsson has six golds.

Sweden had a perfect 10-0 record in the event. They also had the highest general average of 1.664. Germany had the highest single game average with 2.117.

Of all the players Jaspers had the highest general average of 2.171. Blomdahl had a 3.333 to top the single game averages. He also had a perfect set where he made a run of 15 from his first inning. This has only happened three times in the last 10 years.

The tournament was played 14-17 February at Festhalle in Viersen, Germany.

Daryl Peach on top in German Open

England's Daryl Peach won the PoolComps.com German Open.

In the final he defeated Dimitri Jungo (Switzerland) 10-3 to win €5000. Jungo took home €3300 for the runner-up position.

In the semi-finals Peach beat Spain's David Alcaide and Jungo defeated Ralf Souquet from Germany.

This was Peach's first win on the Euro Tour. He has previously finished runner-up once and third twice.

Defending champion Harald Stolka (Germany) ended up in 33rd position.

With this victory Peach jumps from 15th to fourth in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Jungo moves from 202nd to 97th.

Niels Feijen (Netherlands) moves up one spot to the top of the rankings. Fabio Petroni (Italy) improves from third to second and Oliver Ortmann (Germany) drops from first to third.

The tournament was played 2-5 May at "Die Drei", Sindelfingen, Germany. It was the third Euro Tour event of the season. Next stop is the Austria Open (June 13-17).

The winning team consisted of Torbjörn Blomdahl and Michael Nilsson. In the final they won 2-0 over Denmark's duo, Tonny Carlsen and Brian Knudsen.

Germany and Netherlands tied for third place in an event with 24 teams from 22 countries.

The tournament was played 1-4 March at Festhalle in Viersen, Germany.

Eddy Merckx is 3-cushion World champion

Eddy Merckx from Belgium won the World Three Cushion Championship in St. Wendel, Germany.

In the final against Nikos Polychronopoulos from Greece he won 3-1, with the set scores 15-11, 15-14, 4-15 and 15-2. Peter de Backer (Belgium) captured the bronze medal.

Marco Zanetti (Italy) had the highest average in the tournament, with 1.802. Current European champion Frédéric Caudron from Belgium had the highest single match average with 2.812. Dick Jaspers (Netherlands) had the highest run in the event with 15.

Merckx is No.13 in the current World Players Ranking and is a multiple Belgian Champion.

The championship was held in Saaldau, Germany between 19th and 24th September.

Ortmann and Ouschan on top of Europe

The European Pool Championships was dominated by two players, one seasoned campaigner and one young contender.

German master Oliver Ortmann clinched golds in 14.1 and 8-ball. Jasmin Ouschan of Austria duplicated that feat in the women's division.

Multiple European champions Ralf Souquet (Germany) and Line Kjørsvik (Norway) took top honors in 9-ball.

In the wheelchair division Jouni Täthi (Finland) and Roy Kimberley (GBR) won in 8-ball and 9-ball respectively.
