Allison Fisher claims third Great Lakes Classic title

Allison Fisher from England won the Great Lakes Classic.

In the final she came back from 2-0 down to defeat countrywoman Kelly Fisher 7-4.

Karen Corr (Ireland) and Sarah Ellerby (England) shared third, completing a clean sweep for the European contingent.

This was Allison Fisher's second title of 2008, her third Great Lakes Classic championship and her 53rd title on the Classic Tour.

The defending champion Xiaoting Pan from China was edged 9-8 by Kelly Fisher in the quarter-finals.

This win solidified Allison Fisher's No.1 position in the WPBA Rankings. Kelly Fisher improved from seventh to 5th. Corr jumped from fifth to second. She shares that place with Ga Young Kim (South Korea) and Pan.

The event is scheduled to be shown on ESPN 4 August from 8-11PM EST.

The event took place June 25-29, 2008 at the Blue Chip Casino, Michigan City, Indiana, USA. It was the third of ten events on the 2008 Classic Tour. Next up is the US Open, at the Riverwind Casino, Norman, Oklahoma, July 30 - August 3 2008.

Grace and Evans capture European Snooker Championships

David Grace and Reanne Evans from England won gold in the European Snooker Championships.

Grace edged fellow Englishman Craig Steadman 7-6 in the final of the men's event while Evans defeated Emma Bonney (England) 5-3.

Grace defeated Andrew Pagett (Wales) 6-4 in the semis while Steadman beat former top pro Darren Morgan (Wales) 6-3.

For the second year running Evans defeated Michelle Sherwin (Ireland) 4-0 in the women's semi-finals. Bonney beat Belgium's Isabelle Jonckheere 4-1.

This was Grace's first major title. Evans won the 2007 European Championship and has four World Ladies Snooker Championships and two IBSF World Amateur Ladies Championships.

With this victory Grace won a spot on the 2008/2009 Main Tour.

Alan Trigg completed the English domination with victory in the Masters division. In the final he beat Kieran McMahon (Northern Ireland) 6-4. McMahon also finished runner-up last year, to Darren Morgan.

Bobby Cruickshank from Scotland had the highest break of the tournament with a 119.

The event was held 5-14 June at the Sport Hall GLOBUS, Lublin, Poland.

The European Main Tour play-offs was played just before the tournament. Former pro Stefan Mazrocis (Netherlands) won the event and wins back a place on next season's Main Tour.

Nick van den Berg takes Austria Open title

Nick van den Berg from Netherlands won his fourth Euro Tour title by capturing the Patricks Austria Open.

In the final the two-time Euro Tour season winner dominated England's two-time Euro Tour titlist Imran Majid 9-2. The victory was worth €6000. Majid received €3800 for his runner-up finish.

In the semi-finals van den Berg defeated fellow Dutchman Niels Feijen 9-2 while Majid beat Poland's Mateusz Sniegocki 9-3.

This was van den Berg's second win in the Austria Open and fourth win in total. He has previously won the 2002 Austria Open, 2005 Germany Open and 2006 Czech Open. This puts him in fifth place on the all-time list.

Defending champion, John Vassalos from Greece did not take part in the event.

The win takes van den Berg from ninth to fifth in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Majid moves from fifth to second. Mark Gray (England) once again holds on to the top position. Bruno Muratore (Italy) sits in third place.

The tournament was played 12-14 June at Patricks Canadian Taverne, Rankweil, Austria. It was the fourth event of seven on the 2008 Euro Tour. The next stop is the Dynamic Netherlands Open which runs from 11-13 September, 2008.

Pan and Jones on top in GenerationPool.com 9-Ball Championships

Xiaoting Pan (China) and Jeremy Jones (USA) captured the GenerationPool.com 9-ball Championships.

In the finals Pan defeated Ga Young Kim (South Korea) 7-4. Jones beat his friend and rival Ronnie Wiseman (USA) by the same score.

The winners both received $15,000, while the runner-ups won $9,000.

In the women's division 2006 champion Jasmin Ouschan (Austria) and Anna Kostanian (USA) shared third. 2000 champion Johnny Archer and fellow American Shawn Putman took the same positions among the men.

Neither Pan nor Jones had won the title before. Jones was runner-up in 1999.

The defending champions had a tough time this time around. Karen Corr (Ireland) lost to Pan in the quarter-finals and Shane Van Boening went out to Robb Saez (USA) in the early rounds.

With this win Pan advanced from 9th to third in the WPBA Rankings. Kim improved from third to second. Allison Fisher (England) is still in front.

The event took place June 8-12, 2008 at the Charlotte Convention Center, Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. The tournament was previously known as the EnjoyPool.com 9-ball Championships and before that the BCA Open 9-ball Championships.

Dick Jaspers wins European Three Cushion Championship with record-breaking play

Dick Jaspers from Netherlands won the European Three Cushion Championship.

In the final he defeated Sweden's Torbjörn Blomdahl 3-0. The set scores were 15-8, 15-2 and 15-8. Marco Zanetti (Italy) and Roland Forthomme (Belgium) shared third place.

Jaspers played extremely well in the final, setting a new world record average of 5.625. He also produced a high run of 15.

This was Jaspers' second European title. His previous win came in 2003. In addition he has two silver medals and four bronzes, including in the previous three years.

In addition to highest match average and best run Jaspers also had the highest tournament average, with 2.169.

Belgium's defending champion Eddy Merckx was beaten 3-2 by Jean-Christophe (France) in the last 16.

Jaspers is third in the current World Players Ranking.

The event took place June 5-8 in Centre Culturel "La Passarelle", Florange, France.

Chang continues Asian Tour domination with victory in in Kuala Lumpur

Taiwan's Jung-Lin Chang won his fourth title in a row and third of the season by taking the Kuala Lumpur leg of the Guinness Asian 9-ball Tour.

In the final he defeated Antonio Gabica (Phillipines) 11-6.

Chang received $15,000 for the win. Babica got $6,000 for second place.

Ryu Seung Woo (South Korea) and Hung-Hsiang Wang (Taiwan) shared third place.

Chang is on a terrific run. He has now won all three events of the current season, four Tour events in a row and six of the last nine, including the last three Malaysia events.

Naturally the Taiwan cueist dominates the ranking list. Wang, Joven Bustamente (Philippines) and Ching-Shun Yang (Taiwan) shares second place.

The competition was held May 30 - June 1 at Genting Highlands, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This was the third of four events on the 2008 Guinness 9 Ball Tour. Next stop is in Singapore from 25-27 July. The last is the Grand Final in Jakarta which is comprised of the top 10 in the overall Order of Merit.

Engert wins Germany Open for ninth Euro Tour title

Germany's own Thomas Engert captured his ninth Euro Tour title by winning the Dynamic Germany Open.

In the final the eight-time European champion trounced Italy's Fabio Petroni 9-1 to win €6000. Petroni received €3800 for his runner-up finish.

In the semi-finals Engert defeated Karl Boyes (England) 9-3 while Petroni bested Finlands's Markus Juva 9-7.

This was Engert's ninth tournament win on the Euro Tour. He has previously won the 1992 Dutch Open, 1992 Hungarian Open, 1994 Germany Open, 1996 Netherlands Open, 1997 Spain Open, 1998 Polen Open, 2004 Italy Open and 2005 Swiss Open. Only his fellow Germans Ralf Souquet and Oliver Ortmann have more wins, with 13 each. The 35 wins means the German trio has won 37.6% of the 93 Euro Tour events contested.

Engert's only loss in the event came against Austria's Jasmin Ouschan. She was eventually beaten 9-6 by Gabriele Cimmino (Italy) in the last 32. Defending champion, England's world champion Daryl Peach lost 9-6 to Engert at the same stage.

The win takes Engert all the way from 11th to second in the Euro Tour Ranking. Losing finalist Petroni moves from 37th to 20th. Ouschan is the top female on the list, improving from 106th to 66th. Mark Gray (England) once again holds on to the top position. Former snooker great Tony Drago (Malta) drops from second to third.

The tournament was played 22-24 May at Billiardcenter "Die Drei", Sindelfingen, Germany. It was the third event of seven on the 2008 Euro Tour. The next stop is the Dynamic Austrian Open which runs from 12-14 June, 2008.

Reanne Evans captures fourth straight World Ladies Snooker Championship

England's Reanne Evans won the World Ladies Snooker Championship for a record fourth consecutive time.

In the final she beat compatriot Emma Banks 5-3 to pocket the £700 winner's cheque.

Evans also recorded the highest break in the event, a 102 in the group stages.

It was the record fourth world title in a row for Evans. In 2005 she defeated Lynette Horsburgh (Scotland) 6-1, in 2006 she beat Emma Bonney (England) 5-3 and last year she won 5-3 over Katie Henrick (England).

Chris Sharpe (England) beat Malgorzata Sikorska (Poland) 3-1 in the seniors final and 11-year-old Hannah Jones (England) defeated Joanne Davies (England) in the juniors final.

Jaique Ip Wan In (Netherlands) and Pam Wood (England) beat Sharpe and Laura Alves (Ireland) 2-1 in the ladies doubles.

In the final of the english billiards event Emma Bonney (England) beat Ewa Palmius (Sweden) 216-119.

This championship is organized by the World Ladies Snooker & Billiards Association. It must not be confused with the IBSF World Championship. Evans is a also the defending champion in that event.

The tournament was played at the Cambridge Snooker Centre, England, 3-8 May, 2008.
