Mark J Williams surprised almost everyone by winning the Star Dragon Woods Villa Cup China Open. He hadn't won a ranking title since 2003, and for a while it looked like he was going to lose his place in the top 16.John Higgins once again lost 9-8 in a final. He lost by the same scores to Ken Doherty in the recent Malta Cup.
